At the Provincial Malta Meeting on 28th October 2016, The Provincial Prior announced

that this would be the last occasion he would be appointing E.Kt. John Railton Simons,

his Sub-Prior, to that office as John would be retiring at the next Provincial Chapter Meeting of the Province in May 2017. E.Kt. John will have served the Province in the office of Sub-Prior for four years when he retires in May 2017.

R.Ill.Kt. John was appointed The Intendant-General of the Division of Essex in The Masonic and Military Order of the Red Cross of Constantine and the Orders of the Holy Sepulchre and of St. John the Evangelist in June 2014. With the added responsibilities and the duties associated with that office E.Kt. John requested that he would like to stand down as the Provincial Sub-Prior of Essex in the United Orders of the Temple and Hospital. R.E.Kt. Anthony John Helliar, The Provincial Prior, would like to place on record his deepest thanks and highest regard he has for the wise counsel, help, advice, assistance and support that E.Kt.John has given him since it was announced in January 2013 that he was to be the new Prior of Essex. As a consequence R.E.Kt. John Helliar, as Provincial Prior, is delighted to announce that he will appoint E.Kt. Roger Langdon Smith, Past Great Aide-de-Camp - his Provincial Marshal - to be his Sub-Prior next May. It is a position and office that E.Kt. Roger is well qualified to occupy as his dedication to and  love of the Knight Templar Degree is well known throughout the Province and by all who know him not only in Essex but also in many other Provinces through their contact with him. Roger was appointed the Provincial Marshal in May 2013 and his love of the ritual, the ceremonial of the degree as well as his involvement coupled with his dedication to the Preceptory of Improvement has made a big impact since then in putting the Province at the forefront of Knight Templar Masonry. He is well respected by all who know him and the Provincial Prior is delighted that Roger has agreed to become his deputy.
